« As-tu reçu le texto que je t’ai envoyé? »

“Did you get the text I sent you?”

A listener emailed us this morning about the verb ‘to get’. In fact, French has no real equivalent. A wide range of verbs is used: it all depends on the context.

Below are just some of the possible verbs/expressions we could use:

  • obtenir
  • avoir
  • prendre
  • recevoir
  • chercher
  • aller chercher
  • prendre [to get (a few things at the shop)]
  • récupérer [to get (the kids from school)]
  • décrocher [to get (a job)]
