« Je vais m’offrir un téléphone basique »

“I’m going to buy myself a basic phone”

Our conversation this time was inspired by a recent article entitled “Has the smartphone destroyed a generation?” A provocative title indeed, but one that got us thinking. C’est parti!

Our lesson this time contains a whole range of interesting vocabulary. To discover how to use expressions such as the following, let's get started!

  • s’offrir (= to buy oneself [s.t.])
  • Qu’est-ce qui fait que …? (= How come …?)
  • inciter [qqn] à (= to encourage [s.o.] to)
  • détruire (= to destroy)
  • l’utilisation excessive de (= the excessive use of)
  • nuire à (= to harm, to be damaging to)
  • s’appuyer sur (= to rely upon)
  • cela fait déjà quelque temps que — (= for some time now)
  • il est fait référence (= reference is made to)
  • baisser de (= to fall by)
  • sur le moment (= at the time)
  • se passer de (= to do without)
  • se procurer [qqc] (= to get [s.t.])
